Ipod Has Sad Face When I turn it on

Hi, I need help with my iPod Video, I didn't touch my iPod all of yesterday except when I went for a jog, it was working as usual, the next morning I went to play it, it played but when I switch to another song it froze...I tried Hard Reset after it froze and when the apple came during start-up it automatically went straight into the iPod picture with a sad face

Can Anyone help me, and I hoping it's something small, I have not dropped this iPod

have you tried the suggestions in this article such as putting it into disk mode, or restoring the software?

No I want to try all options before I actually decide to restore it, it has 20,000 Songs, And most of the music I got came from teaching overseas, explain the disk mode and instructions on how to do that, I would definitely give that a shot
