Noise coming out from my speakers (Motherboard repair guide needed)

Hello. I once cleaned up my computer and used a contact cleaner (with no oil and no power on). After i plugged all the parts again and powered up my computer, i only heard noises coming out of my speakers. Im looking for a way to fix it. Any help will be appreciated. i can provide with any pictures from the motherboard and anything you may need.

It is a hardware problem after i tried everything from bios update (or downgrade too) to a clean format both Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Front Panel audio is the same just scratching sound coming out from speakers.

I haven't tried optical out because i don't have anything with optical to test with.

Tomorrow i can provide pictures with microscope. I can also use a multimeter for any statistics you may need. But i cant see anything obvious there.

And no warranty now. 5-6 years old, hard to remember!

From 3 different angle... I have already tried what you suggested!

The reason i dont want it to be a PCI card is because there is no space in there!

I use 2 graphics cards. With 2 slots each one of them... So im looking for a way to fix this.

Also, is there a chance for those to get any damage?And just making all this conflict?

No i haven't cleaned the connectors, i dont even know the way, i could just remove them from the motherboard and open it completely though...

Both GPUs do have HDMI.

I also plugged in another graphics card (new, not used) and had the same results.

I also cant find any schematics for the motherboard, so i could use a multimeter with a few tips you know..

UPDATE 4: 15/2/2018

I tried every output and input too. Nothing seems to work. I will try the chip itself. It will take a month or two to have it on my hands. I will report back the results.

Hi,

Why did you need to use contact cleaner? What was the problem?

Did you let the contact cleaner completely dry before you powered up the laptop?

What is the audio like when you use headphones?

Sorry for not mention it before but its a desktop computer. I used the contact cleaner for any humidity.

I've never had any problem with the cleaner on any devices. Yeah im pretty sure it was dry.

Everything i hear from the outputs is noise. no music or anything.

Hi,

You need to verify whether it is a hardware or a software problem.

It may be just a coincidence that the audio problem started after you cleaned the computer.

First try starting the computer in 'safe mode' and check the audio.

If it is OK there may be a problem with the drivers or perhaps a program is interfering with the audio.

If it is still faulty when in safe mode, restart the computer and uninstall the audio controller and then restart the computer again and let Windows "find" the audio controller and re-install it. Here is a link to the drivers for the motherboard. Select the appropriate OS and then download the Audio drivers, in case Windows needs them to install the audio controller.

If Windows install its' "generic" drivers for the audio controller check if the audio sounds OK. If still not OK, try updating the drivers with the downloaded drivers.

If it still doesn't work correctly after this, you may have a hardware problem. Take some close up pictures of the motherboard and post them back here. Hopefully someone may be able to see something amiss and advise you. Here's how to do that. Adding images to an existing question

Hi,

The pictures are a bit to far away to really see anything.

You could locate the Realtek® ALC892 chip on the motherboard to see if there is anything noticeable around it at all.

A quick search on Google has shown that the Sabertooth 990fx R2.0 is notorious for having audio problems,

However one solution was to disable or remove Bluetooth and then listen if the audio works, then reinstall the Bluetooth.

Other than that most of the solutions were to return the board for repair or replacement under warranty.

How old is the board? Is it still covered by the manufacturer's warranty at all? Check the warranty statement that came with the motherboard (usually found in the User Guide) to see if it is still valid for your location. It seems that the warranty period varies from 3-5 years depending on location

Hi,

Don't know if it is just the photo but look at the component at top of first picture of audio chip, with 272 marked on it. The connections along the top row look a bit "merged" or not as well separated as the bottom row

Again not sure but is this a component or an empty position.

If it is a component it looks like it is broken but you will have a better view than me. Also check out what is highlighted by the red circle - funny to have what looks like a connection point not connected to anything - again if it is nothing apologies.

Also forgot to ask before but did you try disconnecting the front panel audio connectors from the board and then connecting to the rear audio connectors and listening to the audio? Apologies if you have already tried this.

It may be that if you cannot find anything that the best option is to disable the audio in BIOS and insert a PCIe audio card and use that

Hi,

The audio connectors at the back connect straight into the motherboard (I think) so it may be there if anywhere. I'm assuming that you didn't clean inside the connectors themselves?

Do the graphics cards have audio capability (HDMI?) by any chance? Just wondering if they do whether there may be a conflict between the graphics card audio and the audio.

Appreciate why you want it fixed without using PCIe but if you cannot then perhaps you may have to look at an external USB sound card as an option

As you say without a schematic it is nearly impossible.

Just scratching for ideas here.

Have you tried using the microphone input to record something or using the LIne Out to an amp input, just to see if the audio works. If it also doesn't work for these functions it may be that the audio chip (or its' power supply perhaps - again on the board so difficult to tell) itself may be faulty.

Sorry that I can't be of any more help on this.

I have the same motherboard, and a similar issue. I’d fighting with the same problem but now, I’m using audio from HDMI port in my home theather system and the noise issue has out.

My recurrent problem is that I make use of wireless Logitech peripherials. Like Keyboard and Mouse. Specifically “Unifiying” products of Logitech.

I have a very strong delay in keyboard and, the worst response of my Logi Anywhere 2s mouse. I tried everything but change the motherboard. (This configuration works excellent in other computers).

Is like that this motherboard has a worst shielding on USB3.0 ports, and this makes a kind of “interference” upon the rest of the devices in the motherboard.

Try to disable USB3.0 from anyware and test agaign.

I have this same motherboard. The onboard audio does not work. I bet 100% if you look at the optical port on the back for the TosLink optical connection there should be a red light on anytime the motherboard has power. On mine the light is off and Windows does still see the audio device shows audio being played though the realtek audio device. Even the realtek audio software detects when something is plugged into any of the analog ports. There is no sound from any ports. Its acting like a fuse blew that supplies power to the optical port and it also supplies power to make the analog audio work like the preamp of some sort power is dead. If you look on your motherboard you will see near the rear I/o ports there is quite a few of SMD fuses marked with a P. Each of them is a fuse not sure if they reset when power is removed or stay blown. I need to get my volt meter out to check them for open circuit. Or see where the voltage is missing. I would like to know what voltage does the optical port need to light up. I believe is 3.3 or 5v. I would try back feeding power from the optical port to see if I can get mine working again. I have already upgraded to a new system and if this board goes up in smoke on attempted repairs I would not cry over it.
