MacBook Pro 13" Retina trackpad suddenly/randomly oversensitive

Hi guys!

The Macbook's trackpad becomes randomly oversensitive all of a sudden. It's a refurb'd 13" Macbook Pro Retina, Early 2015. The random over sensitivity happens more than ten times within an hour. Whenever the problem occurs, when I touch the trackpad with no pressure at all, it senses it as a click and it will click the trackpad multiple times. The clicking is very fast - it sounds like a sped-up woodpecker pecking on wood. I don't even have to use my finger to trigger the trackpad sometimes - the corner of the palm of my hand is enough to make the trackpad go crazy. The sensitive trackpad highlights word that I don't even try to highlight, and it pulls up the meaning of the word in the dictionary all the time, which forces the laptop to switch screens. When the sensitivity stops, the the entire trackpad cannot be clicked/tapped, after which it will return to normal but with the top left corner of the trackpad un-clickable, unlike the rest of the corners. The top left corner not being clickable also happens shortly before the problem starts occurring, and it has become my indication of the problem returning shortly, when the top left part of the trackpad cannot be clicked (you can't hear a click/you can't click anything). The oversensitivity occurs to the point that the trackpad is unusable. I've had the Macbook since October 2016.

I've tried all the system settings for the trackpad there is, and it disappeared for about a week when I activated 'Silent Clicking' last week, but now the problem has returned. It's been bugging me since early December. I went to the Apple Store to find out what the problem was, and they could see nothing from the diagnosis. I am thinking that this is a battery issue, with a possible bloated battery. They guys at the Apple store viewed the repair logs on this Macbook, and apparently it had been refurbished because of a battery issue.

The Apple Store is quoting a $260 replacement of the keyboard, trackpad, and battery since the warranty expired last November, and I was unable to get Apple Care before that. That price is very steep when converted to our currency, and I have been told that the entire repair/replacement will take around 4-5 weeks, which will definitely disrupt a huge chunk of my semester as a Computer Science major.

I really hope you guys can suggest a solution for this.

Sadly your trackpad needs replacing. But unlike the older models Apple glued the battery down! So you need to lift it out to gain access to the trackpad which is under it. Here's the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Trackpad Replacement

What Apple is doing is instead of lifting the battery and replacing the trackpad alone they are replacing the complete uppercase assembly with a refurbished unit! Basically doing this: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Upper Case Replacement

So you need to ask your self what is the least risky path and in the long haul cheaper. Given the price I would just have Apple do it as I would be getting a fresh battery out of the deal and a warranty on the parts and service!

Being in school with a bad trackpad is no fun and being without the system for five or so weeks is too long. I would just buy a Bluetooth mouse and use it instead so you can push off the repairs as long as you can. That way you can save up the cash to get it done.
