Going to order a new digitizer is it OK to replace the home button?

I've repaired a fair number of iPhones, but this is my first iPad. It had a shattered digitizer.

I have successfully removed the digitizer, now I am ordering a replacement..

On some iPhones the home button needs to be transferred.

Is it OK to order the replacement with the home button and replace it?

There is a warning about a "smart cover" and I don't know what that is..

Anyone got an answer?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi

In iPad Air home button flex there is sensor for Smart Cover as shown in red colour.

Block Image

When you receive new digitizer just check for sensor is there or not.

So if this space is empty and no sensor parts then it’s better idea to replace with original home button.

But if it comes with sensor then no need to replace just install it.

I hope this will be helpful to you,

On the iPad air 1 you can transfer the old home button to the new screen to retain smart cover functionality.

Without the smart cover sensor on a home button smart cover sensor may not work and you may need to disable smart cover unlock in settings for power button to work correctly.

Additionally you could desoulder the sensor and transfer it to a replacement home button to be used.
