"No battery available" after battery replacement

I completed installation and the new battery functioned properly, so I let it drain until dead, recharged to 100% overnight, and today the battery indicator says “No battery available.”

I’ve tried SMC reset and NVRAM reset and the error remains. I also did the hardware test (holding ‘D’ when booting) and it came back clean. It shuts down when I remove the power cable so I can’t drain it, and when I boot up it momentarily shows a 100% charge.

Anyone encounter this and have a fix?

Why did you replace the battery in the first place?

by

@danj The original had the "Service Battery" indicator, had over 700 cycles, and its capacity was down to 5000mah

Where did you get the battery?

by

Amazon, sold by Temark

Download this app: CoconutBattery and post a screenshot of the main window so we can see what it's telling us.

@tosegard - Put your old battery in does it register in CoconutBattery?

Any luck with the original battery? If it shows up I think you'll need to get your money back and get a better battery. Here's the IFIXIT battery: MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2012-Early 2013) Battery depending on where you're located IFIXIT is a good choice. FYI: I'm a volunteer answering questions I'm not paid by IFIXIT. I can tell you they stand by their stuff.

I meant to try it last night, but I think the original battery was damaged when I removed it a bit hastily. I tried detaching the battery and holding the power button, then SMC reset (recommended by an Apple Genius friend) but still no luck. If I get a chance I'll try this weekend. Thanks for the help and recommendation. If it turns out to be the battery I believe the seller will replace it otherwise I would definitely buy from iFixit.
