How to fix a PS3 that enters fan test mode by itself 9 out of 10 times

Hello everyone,

So here is the deal with my PS3. I own a fat 40 gb version PS3. The eject and power button have stopped working 2-3 years back. I used to power it on by its remote. I was not able to use my PS3 for around 1-1.5 years at all. When i took it out again it wouldn't start with the remote also and there was already a disc inside. I disassembled it and cleaned it. Since then it has started entering the fan test mode spontaneously. It would do like that most of the time. The ps3 will beep, red light turns green by itself and fans will go full speed then again two beeps and shuts down with no display. Switching on and off will again result in same. Only after so many tries and after few days i am able to start it by inserting a disc when it stays at red light by itself and doesn't jump to this fan test mode. I even have replaced the thermal paste with a good quality one.

I cant find any solution to this. What can i do to make it not to jump into fan test mode everytime? any help please.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

From what I read I can conclude this:

One (or more) of the components are malfunctioning, or one of the internal cables isn’t plugged in correctly.

As a console and pc gamer I highly dont advise to disassemble a PS3 (or any console) unless you really need to! (Ex: to replace component) (Or when you don’t use it anymore and dont intend to reassemble)

You’d have to find the component or cable that’s causing the problem, then replace that part if possible.

I’m not familiar with PS3 technology (I own a PS4), but a fan test mode usually would indicate something wrong with one of its components. (Compare it to a Computer’s BIOS, it beeps when it can’t find a Harddrive and fans keep blowing when something’s not working and pc won’t start. And it then shuts down by itself).

Well it wasn't getting switched and had no option other than disassembly. so what would you suggest i do now?

I cant pin exactly whats wrong so all you can do is try and see what part causes the problem and replace that part if that's possible, or try to replace the Harddrive as it might have gone corrupted and your PS3 can't boot/recognize the drive.

But when it boots fine like after many tries it works fine and the hdd also works fine until the next restart.

Still i would give it a shot.

Thanks for the help
