Help! System keeps freezing.

My PS3 runs perfectly until I hit the PS button. If I try to leave say, a game, to the homescreen, or even just press the button, it freezes up completely. I have tried holding the power button until it clicks, but nothing works. Every time I turn it on, no matter how it was turned off, it tells me it wasn't turned off properly. Thankfully I never lose any data.

The only thing I haven't tried, and seriously want to avoid, is a system factory reset. I really don't want that, but I will if I must. I have searched everywhere for info on this kind of problem, but haven't even heard of others who have had this happen to them.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I thank you both for your answers, I will back my data on my PC and try to downgrade then re-update, and if that doesn't work, the reset is my last chance. Once I set it up and try these, I will accept the one that works. One more thing, have you ever heard of this happening to anyone?

That is an interesting problem you have there. I say bite the bullet and do the factory rest after you saved all of your data fist obviously. Or you could take to Bestbuy or Gamestop maybe they can help you. You got this.

You will have to downgrade your PS3 system software using USB. Watch YouTube videos for instructions. Then when the PS3 prompts you to update, do it and hopefully it will fix your issue. Otherwise you will need to back up your data on an external drive which needs to have same amount of space as the PS3 data size. Then format your PS3 hard drive or better yet buy larger capacity hard drive and install it then restore your data from external hard drive. Again YouTube is your best friend.
