Why won't my computer turn on?

My computer started getting all kinds of weird letters and numbers going across the screen. I would have to restart computer to fix. Then after a few weeks it wouldn't turn on at all. The light on monitor comes on and the fan comes on but is really loud.I was told by mayer? to get some numbers off Pedestal so here they are... Ethernet ID 00112470C57C... SN# W843723RPP8

Remove the rear panel, here's how: iMac G5 20" Model A1076 Rear Panel Replacement

Examine the cans (capacitors) on the logic board for swelling and or corrosion. Let us know the condition. Plug it in and using a pencil eraser press the buttons (cuda switches) to the left of the diagnostic lights around the center of the logic board (look for the upward pointing arrow).. Tell us what the lights do.
