Removed stand, can't put it back on

I took my stand off for transportation and the bracket that pops out stayed within the gap of the opening and won't come back out. I tried the trick with using a card to push the lever out that is supposed to release that bracket, but that doesn't work.

I tried opening the front to get to the bracket but essentially would have had to take every piece of hardware out to get to the bracket.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

I had a 21.5" model which had this same exact problem! I ended up making a tool to snag the tang. I used heavy weight coat hanger bent it into a U and the tips of the U are then bent down enough to go through the holes of the tang. Then as you are trying with a metal ruler snag the clip to release the catch as I am pulling on the coat hanger tool from the top of the tang. It was a big pain!

Oh man! Worked like a charm! Thanks so much!!

At first, after I got the hanger in place I couldn't get the tang to come out beyond the surface of the back cover of the computer. The card I was using to keep the clip down kept slipping or getting knocked out by the hanger. So, I bent the card and taped it down to the back of the computer so it would hold the clip down as I pulled on the tang. Eventually, after a couple of big pulls the tang clicked out.
