Screen hasn’t no back light anymore?

So I took apart my laptop to clean it etc,

I was putting the screen back on it’s frame, and I was screwing in the side screws and I guess I might have screwed one in too tight and then black light just went out, if I look closely I can still see my screen so it’s workinh, the back light is just gone. I was going to turn the screen into a second monitor using a controller board and I was wondering if it would work with that or if the back light would still be out.

Hi,

Sounds as if you may have broken the backlight power feed wiring or perhaps have blown the backlight power feed fuse on the motherboard. Check that you haven't pinched any wiring with the screen frame etc.

If so it will not work until the backlights' power feed is restored

If it is the fuse on the motherboard then perhaps the screen will work if it is disconnected from the motherboard and connected to another device, as long as the new device's video cable wiring connections are identical with the original connections. Not just the number of wires or the type of connector but that the wires are used for the exact same function in the same location in the connector

If you can avoid it you should never do repair work on a laptop (or any electrical/electronic equipment) with the power still connected, this includes battery power.
