Will generic DC plug work?

Hey, I work at a college and found a time capsule that was abandoned for recycling. It's probably a lost cause, but I thought I would give it a go if I could get some parts cheap on ebay, at the very least it would be a project.

Anyway, my question... Apple, in their infinite proprietary wisdom, has chosen to created a somewhat unique plug for connecting the DC cord to the box. It's very similar to other cables that I've seen for connecting cables to DC power supplies for printers or video cameras, but where on the cables I've seen one side is slightly rounded, and the other is square, on the TC both sides are rounded. To save money I was just going to try to shave the plastic on one of these more common cables so I could insert in into the proprietary plug. Does anyone see a problem with this? Should this work? Is there a safety issue with this?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'd give it ago. I've never used a time capsule though... It has an internal PSU right? If it's just a straight cord from socket to TC, you should be set to go
