I am about to replace a broken LCD on a mid 2009 MacBook Pro. Te cover glass is still intact, only the LCD is damaged from an impact to the back cover.
What are the best practices, when reassembling the screen, in order to avoid dust and dirt on th inner surfaces of the glass or the LCD. How to clean and remove dust if there are any?

Use canned air on the LCD and cover it with a lint free cloth while it's exposed. Use rubber surgical gloves while working on it and don't blow out the fans while it's uncovered. No smoking.

+ I will add to that: Work in a well lighted room. Make sure the rubber gloves are non-powdered. The powdered gloves will cause more problems than they will prevent. Many times the LCD screen holds a static charge and the canned air won't move some particles or a hair that is on it, use a soft natural haired brush to remove these from the screen. Any dust particles you miss will look like a dead pixel so inspect the surfaces well prior to sealing them together.
