Have you tried another disc to verify that it is not a warped disc etc?
If it is the same with any disc then It seems as though you have supplied the reason for the problem.
Since the disc is not spinning, it cannot be "read" by the player. Therefore the wait message happens because it is waiting for more information which is not coming. At least it knows that a disc is there.
Try a power reset to see if this "might' fix the problem. Not hopeful but it is quick and easy to do.
Turn off player > Switch off power outlet and remover player's power cord from outlet > Press and hold player's Power button (or turn it on depending on type of ON button) for 30 seconds then release > Reconnect power cord to outlet and switch on outlet > turn on player and insert DVD.
If still no good the player needs to be opened and the problem further investigated.

I have the same problem even I just got mine fresh out of the box.. how did you fix the problem?
