MacBook won't turn on After replacing Thermal Paste.

Hi there,

My MacBook Pro Retina 13 inch Late 2013 won't turn on after I changed the thermal paste. I cleaned the CPU with Articleaner, the thermal paste is arctic silver 5. While cleaning, a little bit of the thermal grease and cleaner got around the cpu and motherboard. No cables or any additional hardware has been removed or changed, the CPU has been treated carefully while reapplying and cleaning the thermal paste. The black cover/plastic around the cpu dye was peeling off while cleaning carefully however. The MagSafe Connector gives a green light, which is for me personally an indication that their shouldn’t be any shortage or damage, right? I can’t perform any kind of reset, no smc reset or anything else.

I am so far clueless and don’t know what I can do in order to make the device work again, I hope you guys could help me out with this troubleshoot.

Thanks in advance!

Try unplugging the magsafe adapter and the battery. Now press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Next reconnect the battery then the mag-safe and see if you get a spontaneous reboot. Observe the progress bar and please report any anomalies.

UPDATE

If this fails I don't have a clue. You might do best to contact Apple and request a "flat rate repair" Total cost in Texas with shipping a tax runs $357 and takes a total for four days. Apple with have a FEDEX shipping box at your door the next morning. They will fix any and all failures for that fee it it has not received liquid damage or impact damage. Call 1-800-MYAPPLE, get to an agent and request it. You will need the serial number and a credit card.

Just tried your solution and unfortunately it still doesn’t turn on, nothing happens and the green light from the Mag-Safe still turns on...

That’s really unfortunate... but still thank you both for your help!

Hey there! I had a similar problem after repasting mine, however I found it started when I plugged in my charger - turns out the keyboard wasn't plugged in properly, so the power button didn't work!

Did you remember to plug the battery back in? I always forget that, also thermal paste is non-conductive.

what was the reason you re-applied thermal paste? was it working before?

It was working, the cpu was getting really hot and I thought that reapplying the thermal paste after around 4 years would be a good idea....
