Device won’t work

After turning it on the screen shows a a sad face and to contact Apple support. It also clicks a few times before the screen goes black. Is this worth repairing?

This probably means that the disk scan was not able to recover the hard disk data. It could also mean a corrupted drive. The bet thing to do is read the link, but if you think it's worth the time and money, then you can take it to Genius. Here's what Apple says to do;

it being a legacy product, I don't think they'll fix it.

Sounds like a hard drive failure. iPod 5th Generation (Video) Hard Drive Replacement

dropping it or something like that where it gets a jolt of force will mess up the spindle of a HDD sometimes.
