Keyboard / trackpad issues.

Have done some digging online and although i have found several posts with the same issue nothing seems to be the exact same.

basically the keyboard and mouse only work outside of the OSX.

in other words it only works on initial boot prior to the apple chimes.

they work in pre boot diagnostic, i can reset the pram. but as soon as the chimes have finished and the osx begins to load the keyboard and mouse suddenly turn off.

when its loaded up be it in recovery, safe mode or normal mode the keyboard and mouse stop. but a usb keyboard and mouse work ok .

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

First please tell us exactly which machine we are talking about. You can narrow it down by entering the Axxx number here or tell us exactly by entering the serial number from the back cover. https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup...

i dont think the model will have a factor in this, but for the sake of the question A1466 13" early 2015.

a part of me thinks its the keyboard and track pad that is faulty and has been replaced at some point but the customer is adamant that its the original keyboard.

have done a repair install of the OSX but fault is still present.

@chuxsta - You'd be surprised to all of the different models that look similar but are different inside. In addition age is a factor as well.

Here is the question is likely the systems firmware (keyboard) that likely is a factor. In other cases the battery.

@mayer - I know you've fought this problem before where you needed to refresh the keyboard firmware. Do you remember how you did it??

@danj

i have had the battery out and the problem is still there.

i thought apple devices didnt run with out their batteries connected.

or at least the ones i had tested didnt.

i have done some digging about checking and updating the firmware but hitting dead ends at the moment.

the firmware angle adds up and makes perfect sense with how the fault is manifesting.

have you tried replacing the cable from the logic board to the trackpad? The keyboard is connected to the trackpad. So this cable might be causing issues.

no, because it works outside of the OSX, so this would say it all works ok.

its either a software or a firmware fault.

the power button works, which is attached to the keyboard.

I read that yes, but that does not necessarily mean it is software. I have had a similar issue, and replacing the cable fixed it.

I had a MacBook that was working fine, but after sleepmode the keyboard and trackpad wouldn't work. since it worked after a reboot, I figured it had to be software. But I couldn't figure the issue out. replacing the cable fixed it.
