Washing machine stuck on spin (tumble) cycle

I have a Kenmore frontload washing machine, and it is coin operated. Since it is quite operated you cannot manually advance the cycle. The machine is stuck on the tumble cycle, so it spins and agitates continuously. I suspect it may need a new timer, but the part is very expensive, so I'm wondering if there are any other possible solutions? Please help
