Why is my power on/off button not working

Up until about one month ago, my power button or turn off on button stopped working on my iPhone 5s? No clicking when I press it either. I have to go to settings >shut down phone, to get it to turn off. The only way I am able to get it to turn on is to plug it in the charger? Please help M

Your button may be damaged. This can happen over time and use or it could be caused by a drop or impact or water corroding the inner workings.

You can look at this guide to see what is involved in changing the button flex.
