Can not change Heater Air low when switch is turned.

I've a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT. When I change the air flow from the heater (i.e. defrost to floor heat). It doesn't respond when the dial is turned. Sometimes after driving a while it will come on to the desired position (After being bounced around). Is there a Manual Cable or hinge that can be lube or is it done electrically?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The gate that opens and closes is moved by a motor. The little motor turns a gear which turns another gear and turns the heater gate. This motor and gearing is found in back of the glove box up towards the front window. Has several wires attached to a white plastic thin box looking device. Inside are contacts that wipe across a resistor surface for feed back to the control knob. It can get jammed by the grease inside hardening. Repair or replacing after you test and take it apart to see if it is ok still. on the internet google your model and make and heater defrost repair. Lots of utube video on how to fix it. Good luck
