Damaged trackpad and battery won’t charge

This machine was given to me and not sure if its worth repairing. The trackpad has pushed itself upwards from the case and the battery will not charge. It does work while connected to the charger and I can use a mouse to navigate. I consider myself a decent hands on person and sure I could repair it myself. Just not sure if it’s worth it.

These are nice machines that can be still very functional if you replace the HD with a SSD and upgrade it to High Sierra. Also the GPUs are rock solid compared to the 2011 ones.

Batteries are relatively cheap for these models, just be careful to get the 2009/2010 version and not the never one as the connectors are different. You most probably only need a new battery as these are now failing due to age.

Replacing the trackpad is also quite an easy job, just be careful with the alignment when you reinstall it.

Chosen Solution

The battery has swollen to a point where it pushed the trackpad up and broke it. Replace both the battery and the trackpad.
