Why is my phone screen so dim in the light but works good in the dark?

I had a cracked screen so I replaced the screen, I’ve done this multiple times with no issue. This time I thought the screen wasn’t working but I could hear the clicks and vibrate so I knew the phone wasn’t dead. I went into my room and the lights were off so it was completely dark and then the screen was on, I thought it was then fixed so I turned on the bedroom light and the screen went back to extremely dim so you can’t see anything again. I turned the light off and turned the phone back on and the screen was bright. What would cause this?

Either ambient light sensor faulty but looks like it is working in your case.

It's to do with the screen where the ambient light sensor sits in.

The part is usually the pink rectangle square that is covered with a black rubber gasket next to the proximity sensor on the front camera assembly.

Anyway you can just turn off auto brightness instead of trying another screen or fixing it.

You can turn off auto brightness in settings, general, accessibly, display accomodations, auto brightness or somewhere near there.

If the black gasket is missing, the ambient light sensor may be too sensitive as it is taking in more light than usual.

So I turned the auto brightness and it worked but as soon as I adjusted the brightness it went right back to extremely dim and now I can even get it bright enough to see it in the dark. Think it’s done?

The replacement screen is most likely defective.

It shouldn't be possible to get the screen so dark that you can't see it in the dark.

I was thinking that. I can get a quick flash and then it’s gone

So i put this screen on my other phone and its fine, so its the phone, what part of the phone would cause this problem

Backlight circuit gone bad, to be specific the backlight driver is failing and needs to be replaced by someone that does microsoldering.

Your auto-brightness is enabled. Try looking in settings for a setting called like Automatically change brightness or Auto brightness, etc. Look in display settings, and it should be there.
