issues after battery replacement

I've had iphone for 2 years and replaced the battery. Everything worked except camera when i put together so reopened and checked connection on back side of logic board. The phone doesn't turn on now. If I plug into wall charger the apple logo comes up for a few seconds and disappears. If i plug into itunes i can get it into dfu mode but cannot restore (get error 1601). The whole time it's plugged into itunes the screen is off. I've disassembled and reassembled several times rechecking all the ribbon connections. I've been very careful not to damage any of the ribbons or connectors. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Do the symptoms point toward any particular component if damage is the cause?

is it recognised in itunes-any error codes? have you got a serial no. on the battery as there have been lots of issues like this with battery changes and iphones not recognising them.

As pollytintop said, there have been lots of reports of problems after replacing batteries and upgrading the phone to 4.x. (particularly with the 3GS - What is the battery part number(s) that works with iOS4?)

Do you still have the old battery? You should see a number like APN:636-0366. I've seen some stores saying 3 different serial numbers as compatible.

I'll see if I can find that link which specified numbers, and you can check your new one for a part #.

Found it.

I don't know if ifixit has done testing on the best 3g replacement like they did for the 3gs. This is worth a read as well:

Replacement battery, of same part number reboots my phone?
