Have you connected all cables as they were before?

I am still examining my work. Thanks for your feed back.

Am assuming the digitizer cable is the one on the left in the group going to the screen

by

The digitizer (touch screen) cable is the long vertical one. The small horizontal one is the LCD display cable.

The vertical one on the right hand side is the front camera ribbon cable.

Since both the home button and charging port do not work, either the charging port is not plugged in properly or the whole charging port dock assembly needs to be replaced.

You can test if the home button cable is faulty or not by shorting the two pins on the charging port dock assembly that connect to the home button (If it physically looks fine there should be two gold connection prongs that should not look broken).

In case you need to replace I have linked where you can buy the replacement part from iFixit:

Here is also a guide to replace the charging port dock assembly:

The gold contacts for the Home button is missing one. It appears that the swelled battery which had lifted the screen assembly up from case, caused the problem. Can the contact be repaired with out replacing the whole assembly ?

by

Yeah but it requires soldering to fix it, basically you would need to solder another gold contact on there.

At that point I would just replace the whole assembly as you said charging port does not work.

The charging port isn't blocked where it won't go in fully right? Because if it is it may just need to be cleaned.

You didn't properly reattach the digitizer cable and home button cable before reassembly.
