New battery not charging properly

Hi, i just replaced the battery in an ipod touch 5th generation but the issue i'm having is the battery level jumps when charging. If i charge the battery from like 20%, it will jump up to like 100% charged after only a minute on the charger. Then when i unplug it, the level will go down from 100% back to like 20%. Something is not reading the battery level properly and i don't know what it is.

There may be an issue with the gas gauge line. This is typical in iPhones where a small filter gets dislodged from the logic board. This filter allows the continuity of this circuit and if it is damaged, the CPU has no real idea what the actual battery level is. The iPod has fundamentally the same circuit design

Was this fluctuation occurring before the battery replacement?

It is possible you have a defective replacement battery and depending on where you bought it, you may want to consider a high quality replacement instead. Otherwise, you will have to have this looked at by a micro-solderer.
