A1181 is no longer able to keep up with the latest OS X. Now what?

I've updated my A1181 and it's in amazing shape but it won't go higher than OS 10.7.5 So what is everyone doing with their aging MB C2D?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I wasted some time a few months ago to try and update a Macbook Air 1,1 which has the same limitations. You can find some third parties hacks (osxhackers.net) but at least in my experience nothing worked as it was supposed to. I ended up dropping the matter as I came to the conclusion that everything put together is not worth the headache, considering hardware and software drawbacks. A1181 from 2009 run natively El capitan and are sold pretty cheap nowadays, same applies to A1342 models too and they run up to High Sierra.

I have installed Ubuntu on my C2D MB and it works great. I don’t trust 10.7.5 anymore because it has some serious security holes and I don’t feel like getting screwed over.
