iPhone 6 replacement screen won't work, old one does

Hello everyone.

I recently bought from iFixit one front assembly replacement kit (screen), one lighting connector and one battery.

The battery and the lighting connector (along with mic and headphone jack) were installed and work great, so I sorted out any power issues I had in the past.

The screen however is a different story. When I install the new screen and migrate the home button, I get a black screen and the phone looks like it doesn't power on. I tried the different button combinations (home+sleep) and even repeated the replacement process a couple of times to make sure that I followed everything down to the letter of the guides.

When I put my old screen back, it works perfectly and the phone is accessible and operates as it should. When I install the new one, I'm just starring at a black screen.

Any ideas on the possible issues in this scenario? Any possibilities this is just a defective part?

UPDATE: I contacted iFixit and a new screen replacement is on the way!

Plenty of factors in tampering can cause this issue, and the most frequent are listed below.

remember to remove a battery before any repair.

remember to do A HARD RESET after every replacement. (Home button, and power button for 20 seconds, or until you see the apple logo.)

1) The Connections to the screen are loose: A good technician will remove the screen before replacing the battery, as to avoid stressing out the flex ribbon during the repair. Unfortunately, this may cause the connections to not be reassembled properly. open up the device, re-remove the screen, and attach it again. make sure you hear a click with each connector you apply. Should you have access to it, i would also suggest cleaning the connections with 99% isopropyl for a longer lasting device.

2) flex ribbons can not only have the chance to tear, but more commonly, partially sever the circuit attached to the LCD/Digi itself. Many will argue that "A good technician is skilled enough to not have to do this," but this usually just means they want to rush the repair. anyone worth their salts will remove the possible factor of damaging the phone, no matter how small the chance may be. accidents can still happen. In this case, replacing the screen should fix the issue.

3) ESD: Electro static discharge can cause failures in the LCD and touch panel. while doing repairs be sure to take antistatic measures as listed here: Antistatic Mat, Wriststraps, and/or gloves. Do not ute metal tools to handle connectors or boards. remove battery prior to any repair. Keep device in dry location, with a comfortable humidex- (Too dry, or moist in the air will cause a static buildup)

4) Lemon part: The part could have been manufactured with defects.

In this case, I ensured that the connections are properly attached to the board. Moreover, there haven't been any actions that could potentially sever the flex ribbons or circuit. Finally, I used the kit provided by iFixit, together the gloves.

Since the screen replacement is not a challenging one, and since I properly installed the components right out of the box, I lean towards the impression that the part was faulty from the start.

It's a pity considering I was waiting for a week to end up with empty hands...

i agree. it is a shame when this happens. My answer is broad enough for anyone who has a screen failure after a replacement. Likely a faulty part, assuming you did the hard reset after installing the component.
