Only a buzzing noise after YLOD fix?

So, I am attempting to fix a YLOD 4 usb port ps3 (CECHA or CHECHA) of a friend... unfortunatly, now, after plugging it in and switching the main power button to the 'on' position, I only hear a quiet high buzzing coming from the power source on top. There are no LEDs going off and there is no response to the buttons whatsoever.

Things to know: I do not have some top parts to the PS3 such as the blue ray optical drive (but that shouldn't matter, it used to still kinda work before)

It used to be a motherboard problem (the fans used to go on)

I followed the YLOD repair guide.

__________

Aw man, did I mess up the MB?

I told him I may not be able to fix it... but I still feel bad screwing something up.

So, how do I fix this?

Ben, sounds more like a power supply issue. Disconnect the power supply from the PS3 and see what your output is on the contacts. You may just have to fix that first.

Okay, I have to use a multimeter for that right?

(Only a little hesitant because I don't want to jack up the cost anymore)

I'm getting that from Walmart today. I am new to this, but I take it I should test for.... voltage?

by

Yep, that is about the first thing I'd be looking for. If you are new to multimeters, get a simple one, it will suffice for now and as you get deeper into it you can expand

Yeah, the power supply is busted, which probably somehow caused the YLOD, not sure weather the mother board was even a part of it anymore... but I already reflowed it.

And regardless, now the power supply is TOTALLY dead so I'll need to replace it.

Or, maybe fix the power supply... but to be honest it scares me a little.

I did a YLOD fix on my PS3 and after that the PS3 doesn't turn on; No Red Standby lights and I hear a buzzing sound from Power Supply. I replaced the power supply and still does the same thing.

I saw from a another question that its the Motherboard that is messed up, I don't understand how that could be a problem. I followed all the YLOD directions to the letter.
