I can see the icons to the left on my Coolpix s33 camera, but it will only show a black screen when I take pictures. I can access the menus and all the options just fine, but shows nothing on the LCD screen but black.
Is this a good question?

Are you only getting black or blank pictures as well when you take a picture and then download it to view on a computer? (I realize that you cannot "see" on the camera screen what you are taking)
If you do a get "good" picture then most probably there is a problem with the motherboard in the camera.

If you only get a "black or blank" picture, then you most probably have a faulty CCD sensor in the camera.

Here is a link to the ifixit Nikon Coolpix S33 repair guide. It is helpful as it will help you to gain access to the motherboard and the Lens/CCD sensor board.
If the above seems too daunting I suggest that you contact a reputable, professional camera repair service and ask for a quote to repair the camera

I also find that my Nikkon Coolpix B700 the monitor doesn't turn all every time I open it. It used to and I could adjust any of the settings by looking at the monitor. Now I have to use the view finder or shut the camera off and on repeatedly till the monitor stays on . The camera was bought brand new in december 2018 as a Christmas gift
