How can I can open the hood with a broken hood cable?

My passatt battery recently died and I need to pop the hood but the hood release cable snapped. How can I open the hood now ? I don't want to bring it to a auto shop just for this problem. Can anyone help?

Hi Joe,

Is it the primary release that snapped inside the car, or is it the secondary one that pops out on the front of the car to fully release the hood?
