But when I enter the password, iTunes says it was incorrect. I can't find out the right one, I forgot my iPhone backup password. What can I do? I don't want to reset the password by removing all settings on my phone and lose the backup. I need the backup! Help!

Have you tried the PIN code you used to lock the device with?

by

Yes, I did it. It's not the right passcode.

i'm not sure if it works for you, if your password it not too long, you can try it.

As far as I know, if you can’t remember the password for your encrypted backup, there is no way to recover your information or turn off Encrypt Backup in iTunes. It means that you CAN NOT restore data from THAT encrypted backup file.

But you can try some password recovery tool like TunesGeeker:

it offers 4 ways to recover your iTunes backup password.

Chosen Solution

If you are using an Apple computer you can pull it up via Keychain. If you're using a PC, then there is less of a chance for you to get the password unless you remember what it is. I have tried using paid apps, just to see if they actually work. They don't, so don't waste your time with them.

Good Luck

In the pop up it does allow you to reset your Apple ID's password. You'll need to up in your Apple ID and Apple will email a reset message.

Reference: If you forgot your Apple ID password

I mean the backup password, not my Apple ID password. Anyway, thanks a lot!

iTunes & iCloud backup uses the same Apple User ID and Password. If you used a third party solution then it could have its own unique password.

The other two locks are the PIN (4 or 6 digits) which you use to unload your phone and the system user account (MacOS or Windows). With Mac's you can also user your Apple ID information instead of something different.

This may be ridiculous, but try every single password you can remember.

Yeah, I think OP would like this fixed before the end of the 21st century.

This actually worked!! Thank you. I racked my brain for every single password I have used in the past and finally one of them worked! Why can't the iTunes password for backup be the same as your Apple ID password? So stupid.

  1. You can turn off encrypted iPhone backup by creating a new one, with iOS 11 or later.
  2. And for Mac users, the good news is that you can try to find iTunes backup password in Keychain;
  3. If you still can not unlock your backup, you have to try a iTunes encrypted backup password recovery.
