Spacebar stuck after battery replacement

Great kit, great battery and great explanations. However, can someone please help, since I fixed the battery issue and reassembled everything, my space bar is not working anymore. It is stuck down, and does not want to come back up. Very annoying as you can imagine.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

If you hold the system so the keys are hanging down (upside down) when you hit the space bar is it loose or tight? It should rattle a little bit.

Hi Dan, sorry just seeing this now. all letters above the space bar, the space bar itself, and the couple of letters around the space bar are very tight, when held face down. The space bar is also concave now (the middle is higher than the left and the right part of the bar). I start to wonder if the liquid that unglue the battery did not melt/damage the plastic that hold the keys of my macbook pro...

So you so the keys are gummy. You may have used too much solvent or you had a liquid spill which you hadn't noticed.

Try hoping off the key caps and use some 85% or better isopropyl alcohol on the cotton swabs (Q-Tips) and try cleaning the key parts. Start off with the letter keys first. Let us know how that goes.

Thanks you Dan.

So I took some of the keys off, and cleaned them as you suggested.

I think the issue remains the same: the solvent misshaped the actually plastic keys.

homemade solution: I let the space bar under a pile of heavy book, with a cotton bud in the middle to try and inverse the concave shape, and flatten a it as much as I could. It worked a little. My space bar is now more responsive and work in 80% of the time, but I can definitely feel that something happens.

So I don't know how to flag this, but maybe someone should put this in the instruction: don't use too much solvent and make sure it does not spill anywhere. It sounds stupid for pros, but for newbies like me, I think this is a very valid warning ;) (and I only used a quarter of the entire recipient...)

Thanks very much Dan for your help!!

Good evening, If the spacebar is stuck and won't come up, you might have done something wrong on reassembly

You could try disassembling and reassembling it again, but pay more attention to the parts around the spacebar. I don't own a MacBook Pro unfortunately but in most cases the keyboard is a separate part of the laptop connected through a flat cable, so could you try and see if you positioned the keyboard/spacebar correctly so that the key isn't blocked by the border around the keys?
