Built in Microphone won't pick up voice/sound

The internal microphone stopped working. I checked the typical suggesting like rebooting phone, checking settings etc. and nothing works.

I can still talk to people if I use my speakerphone phone, SIRI also hears me as its through speaker phone.

But if I do a phone call and use the internal (small) microphone it doesn't work.. the other end can't hear me.

Any ideas what the culprit here is or what could be the cause? Could the microphone have gotten shifted due a sudden jerk etc on the phone? Worth it to repair and how difficult?

Jeepo23,

after a period of time, the Mic, Lightning port and loud speaker "Ports" (Holes) collect dust, debris much the same way as a person collects "Belly-Button fuzz" :)

You can use something like a toothpick, needle or ultra fine tweezers to try and clear out the debris it has collected, then use some high content isopropyl alcohol (95% or greater) to clean it up.

or follow the guide listed below to disassemble it to get to it better and try cleaning it up.

Personally:

For the trouble you would have taking it apart as described here:

iPhone 6 Lightning Connector Assembly Replacement

It would be best to spend the $8.40 for a new Assembly and just swap out the bad/defective part listed here:

The mic that appears to be at fault is the mic on the charging port assembly. The rubber part is just a cover for the bottom mic.

If it's just too quiet then cleaning the microphone mesh right next to the headphone jack outside the phone might do the trick.

Do you have any more info on what exactly to clean with alcohol, isn't the mic just a rubber piece from the pictures I see online? I am assuming the microphone is at the bottom of the phone by the dock connector?

try cleaning all the mics (front dock back)

Can you provide more specific on what exactly? I did searching online and nothing talks about "cleaning" the mic with alcohol..
