Sir or Madam,

I’m a grumpy old man and need your help.

Please instruct me on how to get improved AM reception from my receiver in my basement.

It was working well when I connected an insulated wire from the receivers AM contact through the wall and metal studs and tied it around the metal natural gas pipe. The length of wire was about 15 feet.

Recently the AM sound was full of static. Please advise your solution including the gauge size of copper wire.

Thank you

You can use the metal framework or metal piping in the house for your antenna and it will work well but if it ends up to close to house wiring you will get static . So stay away from the electrical wires. I have also seen someone use speaker wire around a window sending one wire of a twin strand wire each way around the window . Hope this helps
