Erratic volt meter after changing alternator

On my 97 K1500 5.7 I changed my alternator after the old one died. When I replaced it with a new 110Amp my v olt meter in the car bounces from 12 to over 16V while driving and sometimes while idling after it becomes erratic.

The lights (headlights, overheads, dash, tail lights, blinkers) all flash from dim to bright. I have 2 600W amplifiers for my speakers and subs. The amps do not lose power and the head unit does not dim with the other lights. When the amps are unplugged I still get an erratic reading.

Alternator battery and everything autozone could test came back "100% positive"

Answer this question I have this problem too

Possibly got a bad reg/rectifier. But I would go back over Everything you touched. Clean the connections and make sure they are tight and in the proper place. The reason your sterio isn't effected is because it's set up on its own circuit and (I'm guessing) probably it's own ground wire not ground to the body.

Hey, thanks for the answer. I'll be sure to check that out in the morning. The connections on the alternator itself are clean. If the regulator on my alternator was bad would the test at your average auto parts show not reflect it? As for my stereo, yeah it is. All it's own wires directly routed to the battery and a ground mound on the frame we made for it. So that does explain that.
