You'll need to do some inspection inside to see whats up. Do you have the needed tools and patience to open and service your own system? If not maybe its better to find someone nearby who can service your system.

Start up in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift Key on start up. If it works, run a good "Paid For" anti-virus program on it.

Review this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011 Logic Board Replacement. Follow the guide to Step4, then jump down to Step9 carefully slide the connection out and then back in did that fix things? Looking at the logic board do you see any signs of corrosion? Compare what you see and what the IFIXIT guide shows. Take some pictures if you see something odd and paste them here for us to see.

Update (12/07/2017)

Then we'll need to assume the cable its self is damaged. This could require a new display assembly depending on what you find.

Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011 Display Replacement. We will likely need to take the display fully off the inspect the cable for a pinch around the hinge area. If you see any damage take a good set of pictures (in focus and tight) so we can see whats damaged.

The hinge on the left side with the WiFi/Bluetooth antenna's are routed around a few tight places this is where you could have some rubbing or pinch if were lucky we maybe able to patch the cable. If not, replacing the cable is a bear! As you'll need to pop off the cover glass to get to the iSight camera. This is where your skills and tools will be taxed! Consider just replacing the full display assembly at that point.

Unfortunately this did not help. the laptop has never encountered liquids so thats not a possibility.

Sorry I guess its time to bite the bullet and replace the display assembly or tackle taking the display apart to replace the cable assembly.
