Wifi and GPS not working after I disassembled it.

so i changed the screen of my iphone 4. and before that everything was fine. GPS and wifi worked.

so after i changed it, the Wifi and GPS doesnt work or it works at its minimum, only finds wifi if its right next to the router.

this is what i did with the phone to make sure it works

1) all screws are in the right place and non are missing.

2) i changed the wifi antenna on the speaker along with a new speaker.

3) i checked a brand new speaker on a friends iphone on mine, and it didnt catch wifi, but it did on his iphone.

4) i changed the dock connector.

what else can i do? please help me!!!

At the very top there is one screw which needs to be screwed in, if it is not screwed in my iPhone 4 only gets 1 bar and very weak strength.

I solved this by putting the long screw back in the top and I instantly got 3 bars of WiFi, like I did before.

The link below is an image of the 2 screws that MUST be put back in correctly.

It took me a week of playing around to find out. :D

It all has to do with the top IEM connector cover plate (the one above all the connections). Either that was not put back on right or there is something wrong with that. Clean the connections and make sure its assembled right. That is the location of the WiFi antenna. Hope that helps.

i wanna share how i fixed mine with tin foil!!

take off the wifi cover,

take some tin foil, or (aluminium foil) if your from the US

Fold the tin foil so you have a tiny square so its about 1.5mm - 2mm thick

stab a hole in the middle of the square with a needle, cutt around the needle so the square is very small, then all you do is place the long screw in the top of the wifi cover and before screwing it down to the iphone place the DIY tinfoil washer or the screw behind the wifi cover , Viola!! worked for me hope it helps out anyone else :)

There has to be more involved with this rather than simply screwing in a screw at the top of the EMI for this to be resolved. It would be nice to hear from the OP in regards to results...

I, too, disassembled my phone and noticed that I don't have the silver grommet on the plate where the longer screw goes in, so I'm assuming it came off without my knowledge in the teardown/reassembly process. I ordered a new part to see if this would be a fix.

I don't understand why all of the parts dealers, this site included, are identifying the part attached to the speaker as the WIFI antenna if this top location is actually for wifi then. Seems like a new one would fix this issue, but it does not.

Your link doesn't show two screws, Jeremy. It just shows the assumed location of a gold connector and a "likely" 2.4 GHz connector pad...Tells me nothing.

Not trying to be a troll, just frustrated by the lack of completeness on repair sites. Seems like the OPs never bother posting results after someone marks the issue as answered, too...

Just as an update, I probably owe an apology for doubting Jermey. I replaced the EMI cover which was missing a small grommet (not sure what the technical term would be) where the long screw went. After screwing everything back in place with the new cover (which I was very careful not to get greasy fingerprints all over) my wifi and GPS work perfectly now.

For anyone having wifi/GPS issues that has taken apart their phone and thought it might not be a big deal if I don't replace the screw or something doesn't look right, think again. It's a VERY cheap part at Miami Beach iPhone Repair, and they ship VERY fast.

Had the same issue and fixed it with the pics from the site above. Turns out the metal spacer/washer on the EMI cover fell off on when I swapped my LCD. Same washer for the long bolt they are talking about above. Put that back in with the help of the pics above and now back in business.

I think I have the same problem with my iPhone 4s, poor wifi after screen replacement. Is the solution the same as for the iPhone 4? Do the EMI shield and the wifi antenna look alike?

Hi can someone help me. I have No wifi at all. I have replaced the EMI shield but I am still getting nothing. The wifi won't even turn on to start searching. Is this the only connection for the wifi?
