Electrical system mysteriously dies

I recently purchased a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.7l Hemi. I drove it home from work last night with no issues. I got back in to run an errand 20 minutes later, put the key in and tried to start it. I heard a "pop" from under the dash on the driver's side, and all the electrical components shut off...dome lights, odometer, clock...everything. 2 hours later, after using my wife's car to run my errand, I got into my truck and all electrical components were working. So I put the key in the ignition and tried to start it and the same thing happened. The battery was replaced less than a week ago. I took it to O'Reilly's to check the alternator and it was good, but my starter failed. I'm lost here. What could it be?

Answer this question I have this problem too

It sounds like a fuse could be the problem. Very strange that they worked, and then blew again. I would find which fuse controls that circuit using your owners manual, remove it and replacee it with a new one. Once youve done that, get back to me and let me know if your issue was resolved or it's still broken.

I talked with a buddy of mine that turns wrenches for a living and he thought, without seeing it mind you, that either the ignition switch went bad, or some of the wires in the ignition switch harness got rubbed raw and are grounding out.

That could also be very likely. I didnt think of that. I would probably get that looked at then.

Not the problem...unless I got a bad ignition switch. Sounds like I'll be playing an exhilarating game of "Find the Electrical Issue by Tracing the ENTIRE Wiring Harness." My buddy also suggested checking the relay switches. I read another forum on here that sounded very similar to my issue. They suggested testing the ASD relay.
