Replaced battery, conditioned, health is at 30%

Hello!

I recently installed a new battery into my macbook pro. After installing the battery I checked the health and saw that it was at 105%. I followed the conditioning instructions and after letting the battery fully drain and then charge to full, the health had dropped to 30%. This substantial drop is somewhat concerning to me as it somewhat defeats the purpose of even installing a new battery in the first place. Anyone know what's going on? Did i just get a bad battery?

Ryan

Update (12/02/2017)

Health now has jumped to 105% but the charge percentage is down to 74%. Why is this data fluctuating so much?

Have you tried an SMC reset yet?

Chosen Solution

Do an SMC reset and NVRAM reset (Google to find out how), batteries usually need these to perform fine after installing.

If it still has the same issue, return it. It is likely not new and has had the battery count reset and the software messed with; which is why the battery health is unstable
