LED lights are out of sync (color)

I have a 3 section, direct-connect prelit christmas tree with LED lights which will display as color or clear. One section is out of sync with the other two; i.e., color when the other is clear. Changing the mode works discretely on the sections. I have tried plugging the individual sections into the base and switching modes, but when reconnected, the disparity returns. Has anyone run into a similar issue with interconnected strings of LEDs?
