New Hard Disk Compatibility

Can anyone tell me, before I spend the cash, if this drive will work in my A1297 MBP 17"?

2.5" Hybrid Hard Disk 2TB Seagate Firecuda ST2000LX001

I know the 1TB is tested but don't know if the 2Tb will work.

Many thanks in advance.

Hold that thought!

Review your system this FireCuda drive is a fixed SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drive. Depending on your exact system you may have a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) interface in your system (Core 2 Duo and i5) or have a SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) on the very last series of 17" models (i7).

The older Seagate SSHD drive was auto sense which would work across either SATA II & SATA III systems.

Idk @danj , I have the same HDD in my Dell's optical drive bay that only supports SATA I and other than it being really slow it works well.

Thats the older model not this one! Review the spec sheets:

- FireCuda 2.5" SSHD

- Momentus XT 2.5" SSHD

Note the SATA interface line differences! If you really have a SATA I (1.5 Gb/s) system then you have the still older model.

Many of us were caught off guard when they redid the drive as the 3.5" FireCuda is an Auto sense drive: FireCuda 3.5" SSHD

Oops! Now, that is a thought!

I'm not sure how to check but I'll have a look and find out, Many thanks for the warning Dan, much appreciated.

The easiest way to verify your system is to plug your systems S/N into this web site: EveryMac - Lookup then check the drive section.
