Glitchy touchscreen and backlight issues

Howdy y'all,

I recently got into a bad car accident, my phone as well. (don't worry, I wasn't texting and driving.) Initially, after I got my phone from my totaled car, it was dead. I got it back up and running with the help of a hair dryer, but I ran into display issues once it booted up. It's got lines in the display where things are being drawn on the screen, and there is obvious damage to the backlight around the top since some areas are brighter than others. Every now and then, the backlight will die completely or be so dim I can't see it in complete darkness. When I use the phone the touchscreen will freak out and open apps I didn't press on. I was planning on replacing the screen, but I'm not sure if it's just the screen or a deeper problem altogether.

Please advise me on what I should do next. Thanks in advance.

I reccomend for now you check your screen wiring and if possible replace it yourself or take it to a certified Apple repair shop. Use the guides below to help you out.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll take a look and see if anything is loose or something like that. I'm more than willing to replace the display, but I don't want to waste my money if the problem is deeper than that.

Alright. Let me know how it goes.

I work at a repair shop, and I have seen a screen look like this a few times before. A screen replacement fixed the issue most of the time. however, once, it was a board level failure.

Thanks for the input. I haven't taken it apart yet. Doing my research about dim backlights makes me worried that the backlight IC chips could have shorted or something like that, which is a much more difficult problem to fix. Being a 128 GB iPhone, I want to try everything I can to get it back up and working.

well your least invasive repair would be a screen replacement, so i would start with that, and see how far that gets you. this should at least fix the lines in your screen.

should something else need repairs from there, you can look into other issues. Such at the backlight circuit, and the touch control IC.

Thanks. I'll start with that, and come back with the results.

Good Afternoon,

What is sounds like is that the issue is just the screen. However there is a possibility that you could have blown your backlight fuse. If that is the case the easiest solution is to replace the phone.

Hope I answered your question.

Have a great day!
