Asus X555L laptop Flickers When Battery Below 70%

My Asus X555L has been flickering for a long time. I got it about 1 and a half years ago. The problem does not occur when the laptop is plugged in. I have tried all suggestions on the internet with no success. I think it might be a problem with the LCD inverter. Has anybody else fixed this problem before? If so, please help me. It it really annoying.

Hi!

Does your laptop also switch to a power-saving mode when it does start to flicker? Or does the luminosity change?

by

I am not put into a power saving mode. The luminosity does not change either. It mostly happens when I press a key or open an app.

by

So if you just leave it running off the batteries will it not start flickering UNLESS you open an app or press a key?

by

Sometimes it does that and sometimes it flickers constantly.

by

I have this exact laptop, so if you need picture of a part or something I can help.

Update: I’ve discovered that the flickering problem most likely has to do with the LCD inverter - the chip that controls the LCD screen. It is definitely not a software problem because it has the same issue when in the BIOS setup and booting a os from a USB drive. Since the LCD inverter is attached to the screen, I would recommend replacing the LCD screen, not the battery. You can find them on Ebay for as little as $43: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4...

I think this is a design flaw in this laptop model. I personally would recommend buying a better computer.

next time the screen flickers go immediately to the even log and see if an error is recorded . If there is an error this may help shine a light on it . If there is no error code before jumping on the invertor you may want to test your battery . If your battery is getting old it may say 70 % but its may be failing . If the battery dies with less than two hours of use it may be time to replace the battery . bad batteries can cause a lot of different problems and if your not having any screen issues when its plugged in Id tend to look long and hard at the battery. If after replacing the battery you still have no joy then replace the invertor . This is a helpful video towards that end

Some other things to check are the screen cable at the hinges and the screen itself . Hope this helps

The laptop is only 1 and a half years old. I doubt the battery is failing.

Even if the problem is the LCD inverter, I can't seem to find one for my laptop.

by

It appears the invertor is integrated into the screen on this laptop

This video shows how to replace the screen and if you look closely at the bottom of the screen in the video it says do not touch ... this is were the invertor is . They can be purchased on ebay

I think I would rather live with a simple problem then spending $75.

by

Great. Now its starting to flicker when its at 80%.

i changed the lcd, i didn't want to buy original one and i bought brand AUO it fits perfect. Now the screen of laptop doesn't blink rapidly !

by

My big-screen Toshiba BIG-lap-top, same blinking problem. Linux set normal-brightness 'on battery' from 80% to 50%, and normal-dim from 40% to 15%. Problem not as noticeable ,,, but I did notice the fan is much quieter.

by

Maybe its time to clean ot inside and change the thermal paste. But the problem with the blinking its inverter of the screen.
