Hey!
so there are a few issues that could cause this failure.
First, you should definitely do a hard reset. (hold the power button down, with the home button for 15 seconds, or until you see the apple logo again) this will preform a cache dump, and fix any failures the device gets from temp file build up.
the next thing to do, is to go into the settings, and manually turn your volume down through there. if you turn your volume down, and it starts going up again, then it is very likely you have a short in your volume circuit. if this is the case, open the device, and disconnect the volume keys. should the problem stop, and the screen go away, then the most likely repair is to replace the volume flex.
If the volume screen doesnt go away after this, it COULD be thinking its plugged into a dock. Shorts in the charge port have been known to cause volume issues. disconnect the charge port, and see if you still get the error. If you dont, replacing the Charge port will fix your issue
The next stage, should it not work, would be to do a factory restore. should there be any data corruption causing your failure, a factory reset will fix it. (A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR PHONE)
the last, and final problem, is a board level failure, in which the audio control circuit is failing. repairing this is usually more expensive than just going out, and buying a new phone, unless you specifically have the skillset to do the diagnostics and SMT soldering.
I hope this helps with your diagnosis. and remember;
-Look to make sure there isnt any corrosion (water damage) inside
-Be sure to turn off any device before opening it up
-work with Antistatic tools to avoid ESD

Any liquid damage? Have you tried to perform a hard reset? Keep the home button and the power button pressed in the same time until you see the apple logo and release them after that. See if that helps and that stops displaying. If it still shows up i would say there is a problem with the volume button flex and needs to be changed.
