How do I get my iPad to charge?

My iPad doesn't charge. It's never had a problem like this before. What happens is when I charge it, it will turn on at 2% and then die a few seconds later. What's wrong with it and how can I fix the problem?

@meg753 check to make sure that your cable is okay and try a different charger or verify that the charger works properly by charging a different device. If so check the lightning port and make sure that there is no debris etc. in it. After that you do want to consider a new battery. Not an easy task but it is doable, just follow this guide iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi Battery Replacement

Thanks for the feedback. I've already tried using the charger on another device as well as checking the port for debris. I'm a little disappointed that I'll have to change the battery, but like you said, it's doable. However, the manual you attached will be very helpful. Thanks!
