Outer bezel compatibility question

Hi,

I've got an iMac g3 DV graphite slot-loading with a cracked outer bezel (the part with the apple logo and has written "iMac"). I'm looking for a donor machine and was wondering if the bezels of previous models (Model M4984 tray loading) are compatible.

Thanks,

A.

I've kind of forgotten where that was, could you post a photo? I may have on hidden away in the garage.

Hi Mayer!

This is the correct part: http://www.usedmac.com/products/922-3921...

But I'm wondering if I can use and older model part (tray loading) instead, which are super cheap now. They look the same to me but I can not tell since I be got none in hand.

Regards,

A.

Chosen Solution

Ok, I just want to leave a quick and final update on this subject. I believe it's important for people like myself trying to revive their vintage iMacs today.

So, the iMac G3 until 1999 (tray loading) and the iMac G3 launched after 1999 (slot loading) have completely different front outer bezels. At a quick glance they look the same but if you carefully study them you'll find that the older model top part is bigger/deeper and the lower end over the Optical drive is straighter than in the newer model. Also, the internal tabs and screw holes are in completely different places and the apple logos are slightly different in size.

Unfortunately I've learned this the hard way.

Regards,

A.
