won't turn ON automatically

My refrigerator and freezer gets cold enough. the problem is that i won't turn ON automatically. Once it reaches the desired Temp, it'll shut off. after awhile I would have to manually turn the knob controls to OFF then ON to get it running again. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Refrigerators do normally cycle on and off. The condenser will be running when the cooling cycle is in operation and once a desired temperature range is met, the defrost cycle will engage, shutting off the compressor. Is your fridge acting abnormally? Did you just notice different sounds from your fridge? Did you just buy a new fridge and weren't sure if it were working right?

Had the fridge since 2006 and never had issues with it until now.

There is a strange humming noise that I just can't figure out where it's coming from. The fan will be ON and blowing cool air and the humming noise will come and go. The humming would come on for about 3-4 seconds and then go away for about 2-3 seconds and then come back for 3-4 seconds... This will continue for about 5-10 minutes then go away. the humming noise is not always present though, seems to be intermittent. Yesterday the fridge stayed on for about 6-7 hours before it shut off. I gave it about 2-3 hours to see if it would come back on again, but to my disappointment I had to manually cycle the ON/OFF knob.

Chosen Solution

Jess escalera - The control that you have to turn to off then back on is the problem. That is your temperature control switch, the contacts inside are sticking. You will need your model number when you order the control switch to insure you order the correct part for your refrigerator.
