The head of a screw Snapped off

Hi citizens of ifixit!

My problem is a screw snapped, detaching the head of the screw from the rest of the screw. The part I’m stuck on is that the screw is still inside my pc. Any ideas on how to get this out? It’s not that important but it bothers me.

(Top is how it should be, bottom is head of snapped screw) please note top is not fully threaded while the problematic screw is fully threaded.

Hmm... it depends. You'll find a collection of tips at

https://therestartproject.org/wiki/How_t...

but I'm not sure how many of them will be applicable.

I think we need to see the other half, and what it's screwed into. It looks like it's snapped in the unthreaded part, which I presume must be sticking out of a threaded hole. First of all, make sure the hole is lubricated, to make it as easy to turn the broken piece as possible. If you can't grip it with pliers then you could possibly use a dremel to cut a screw slot in it, but the last thing you want is iron filings on your motherboard!

But looking more carefully it looks as though maybe the broken screw is threaded right up to the head, unlike the one you show for comparison. If the broken piece is still inside a blind hole then after lubrication, if the fracture is uneven you might just be able to get a purchase on it with a flat screwdriver slightly narrower than the hole. Of if it isn't a blind hole, can you attack it from the other end?
