Does the copper-tape surrounding the digitizer have to replaced.

I have disassembled my iPod for a front-panel replacement, and am unsure if the copper-tape surrounding the digitizer must be replaced.

I don't think that it is strictly required when replacing the front panel - it might be there to eliminate RF interference around the digitizer connector. We have a 4th Generation Touch that we use for testing components that doesn't have the tape around the connector and it operates just fine.

Yes because if you don't replace the copper tape your wifi antennae will not work properly, thus you will have to sit next to your wifi router just to get 2 bars.
