Can I replace the logic board and revive my phone?

Hi I recently reviewed an iPhone 5s that was fried with water damage. would replacing the logic board essentially revive the phone or do i have to make a more extensive repair?

The Logic Board "is" the phone, much the same way the Engine is the car. Everything else is just the Frame, Windshield, Battery, etc... So yes, you can change the logic board...but to remove it out of a working assembly would be a waste of time if you take a working board out of a working phone.

Some water damaged phones can be repaired too if done properly but the cost of repair for a 5S (Depending on the value of the Data) just doesn't seem worth the trouble either.

If you need further help, feel free to repost :)

Best of luck!

the main reason im trying to fix it is the data. is there any way i can diagnose what parts to replace?

The data is stored on the logic board/motherboard, so switching out the motherboard will not help in any way with recovering data.

I would recommend looking up a reputable repair shop that specializes in data recovery if it has a lot of value to you.

Best of luck!

@b_peace , The best way to diagnose what part(s) need repaired or replaced is to first get the logic board out of the housing. Then Un-solder the shields from the logic board. Put it under a microscope to look for burnt or corrosion areas on the board to know where to begin troubleshooting. Put it in an ultrasonic cleaner with an electronic cleaning solution like Branson EC and give it a good alcohol bath.

Now, you would want to start probing different circuits around the board for shorts around the board and replaced any damaged parts. then you can apply voltage to see if it has been successfully repaired or if further troubleshooting needs done to replace/repair any other components.

Like Joseph suggested, I would search for a good reputable Iphone repair shop that does water damaged phone recovery or find one here on Ifixit that offers mail in service. https://www.ifixit.com/Business
