iPhone 6 battery drain after screen replacement

Hi,

I have recently got a customers phone that needed a screen replacement because it had a cracked screen. I have done this many times, however, this time the screen I ordered had white lines coming down from it. I thought it was a faulty screen and sent it back and bought a new one. The new one works perfectly but the battery suddenly drains every quickly. I have done a few tests but I can't figure out what is wrong. I would be very greatfull if someone can help me out here.

Observations:

  • Checked anohter screen, still draining
  • Found out that phone has lots of heat at shield below connectors
  • Looked under microscope and not damage to connectors or filters
  • Even when screen unplugged phone drains battery and is warm

Hi Tom, did you manage to fix this issue? I seem to have the exact same problem. If so, what did you do to fix it?

by

No sorry, I wasn’t able to figure out what was wrong. I have no clue what could have gone wrong but maybe whilst unplugging some of the connectors it’s possible that I might have damaged a chip or component on the board.

The phone is on IOS 10 so it hasn't been updated. It's a motherboard problem because I have put it in a working iphone 6 but just swapped the motherboard and it's still draining the battery.

It could be caused by faulty software (iOS 11.0.0-11.0.3 have major battery bugs) or maybe the battery was damaged during the screen replacement,

I have used a fully working iphone 6 and put the motherboard from the draining iphone 6 and I can confirm that it's still draining battery so it must be a motherboard problem. The phone has not been updtated to IOS 11

Could it be bottom, left long screw damage?

I experienced something similar and found the long screw in there which did pull up the screw holder a tiny bit.

Hi Shoma, when I replaced the screen myself, I had this battery drain problem. However, it was only draining my battery significantly for the first day / few days.

The main thing I did to fix it was charge the phone to full battery, drain it down to 0% (dead). And then leave it for about 10 mins.

Charge it up again to full battery and then see how the charge holds.

I hope this fixes your battery issue - I know how annoying it can be. If not, I’d suggest going to the place you bought the screen from and talking to them about this issue - but DON’T pay them any more money!

Stand your ground, if they can’t fix it for free, I’d suggest going somewhere else and talking them through your issue.

Hope this helps! Theo
